Questions: Do you like to draw, paint, sculpt, act in plays? Do you sometimes wonder how another person can do all these things--and more--so easily? Ever wonder how to begin to create an artwork? And to understand what the artwork is? Well, perhaps TAPPS is for your investigation!
TAPPS: A Web site on how to understand art, specifically for
grades 4 through 6 (although younger and older boys and girls are invited).
We shall define certain terms and apply these terms to artworks. Then, we shall better understand how the artist used these terms to create: Theatre, Architecture, Painting, Photography, and Sculpture.
All of society uses art for its support in one form
or another. We call this "aesthetics"
or recognizing beauty. "Beauty" can be interpreted individually. However,
certain guidelines are needed. Thus, we need objective terms to guide our
understanding of the artwork.
All artworks deepen an
understanding of why all people have the need and desire to create. An
analysis of artworks can lead to a sharpened awareness of the construction
of art. Then, we can understand how the artist solved his problem in
putting his creation together into a whole object. Whether you are using
your imagination to play a game or to solve a problem, you are using
the same part of your brain as an artist does.
This TAPPS Web site can guide you to a better knowledge of how to look at all kinds of art, so you, too, can become an "artist."
Art can
help a person look at the enviroment and his surroundings in a new way.
