Penn State places students into "common year" majors for their first three or four semesters. This means that freshman entering the Eberly College of Science (ECoS) are initially classified simply as Science majors, not as being in specific majors with the College. You can read about the requirements for admission into the Eberly College of Science as a freshman or for transfering into ECoS here.
Although students start in common year status and most Science majors have similar requirements for the first year, it is important to review and understand the requirements of the major you wish to pursue. Read here about the Science majors or the science-related majors that Penn State offers. You can also follow links to Penn State's Bulletin or to each academic department.
Students in most Science majors will stay at Penn State Mont Alto for their first two years. Before the start of their fourth semester, students are asked to declare a major. Students must have completed Math 140 with a C or better by the end of their third semester for entrance to any of the majors in Science. Additional courses and GPA requirements are described in requirements for entrance to the major. Students who meet the requirements are officially admited to their major during their fourth semester.
Please contact an advisor if you have questions or wish to discuss a specific major.
