Science at Penn State Mont Alto
Independent
studies and Honors Options in
Science at Penn State Mont Alto
Basic information about independent
studies
-
Courses numbered 296 and 496 are independent studies.
-
Many Science faculty at Mont Alto have offered these
courses.
-
Negotiation between an interested student and a particular
faculty member is the key to developing an independent study course. Many
factors may influence whether such a course materializes, i.e., time constraints
of schedules, agreement on details of the course, other courses being taken
/ offered, etc.
-
Planning for independent studies takes some time. Please
arrange to discuss the matter with the faculty member in question as early
as possible, preferably ahead of the semester you want to take the course.
Honors Options
-
Honors Options are modifications to regular courses.
They are meant to replace some portion of the usual work with more challenging,
interesting work for a student in the Honors
Program.
-
The deadline for completing the paperwork for an Honors
Option is very early during each semester. Be sure to see the faculty member
before the course starts or during the first week of the class if you wish
to create an Honors Option.
If creating one of these personalized
courses sounds interesting...
All independent studies courses and Honors Options
are offered by arrangement with a faculty member. Feel free to contact
individual
faculty members to discuss the possibilities.
